The study analyses the spillover effects within the Prosciutto di Parma district and the relations between the interested products, both Pdo and non-Pdo.

The research has shown two distinct network within the Prosciutto di Parma district: one related to the Pdo ham and one to the “typeParma” ham. This latter network includes actors applying a production process similar to the former, even without complying with the requirement set in the Pdo code of practice. The paper shows the relations into and between the two networks, showing the geographical knowledge and reputational spillovers that the “type Parma” ham producers benefit from the Prosciutto di Parma Pdo qualification process and reputation.
